An inspirational leader and respected professional, Todd Lumbard provides ongoing direction and guidance to the professional team at Speers.

Todd grew up in his family’s funeral business, Brockie Donovan Funeral Home in Brandon, MB., and learned his work ethic, attention to detail and honesty and integrity in business from his father, Jack.  However, Todd’s passion and talent for hockey led him to a goaltending career with the Notre Dame Hounds, Brandon Wheat Kings and Regina Pats, before being drafted by the New York Islanders. When Todd’s hockey career came to an end, he graduated with honours as a Funeral Service Professional.

In 2004, Todd saw Speers as a perfect fit for his belief in providing high-quality, locally-owned funeral service to a community.  He was able to purchase Speers and Regina became home for he and his young family.

In 2006, Todd was elected to the highly-respected position of president of Selected Independent Funeral Homes -- an international association representing 1500 exclusively chosen members from around the world.

Todd, his wife Kerry, and three children, Drew, Brock and Luke, are active members of the Regina community. Todd is involved in several boards and committees such as the Wascana Country Club, the Canadian Club of Regina, Regina  Eastview Rotary Club and the Funeral and Cremation  Services Council of Saskatchewan.  Todd loves to golf and spends much of his spare time being involved with his children’s activities.

By building on the values and history of Speers, Todd’s vision of providing exceptional locally-owned funeral services continues to ensure Speers’ service is second to none.

Kelsi grew up with her three brothers on a farm near Davidson, and graduated from high school in 2005. Throughout her life she has developed a love for sports, and earned a spot in the Optimist Junior Golf Championship in Florida in 2004. Along with golf, she enjoys hockey, camping and any activity that keeps her outdoors. She has grown an interest over the years for cooking and enjoys finding creative new ways to make things tasty. On July 13, 2013, Kelsi married the love of her life and her best friend Travis Palmer. Together, she and Travis have become quite the travellers. In the summer of 2014 they backpacked across Europe, enjoying all the new sites, amazing food, wine and beer that Europe has to offer. This has started the urge to do much more travelling to see new places in the future.

In 2007, she entered SIAST to train as a funeral service professional. Speers hired her in 2008, recognizing her potential as an excellent addition to the staff. Through Kelsi’s path to becoming a Funeral Service Professional, she has taken opportunities presented to her to make lasting impressions on families with her kindness, professionalism and calm ability to take charge in difficult situations. Superior character shines through in Speers Funeral Service Professional, Lorne Palmer.  A lifelong Saskatchewan resident with over forty years of caring for the community and a sincere appreciation for family, friends and his home have shaped the work Lorne does each day.

Lorne was born in Saskatoon and his early schooling was in Kenaston.  After attending University of Regina, Lorne worked as a teacher in Macklin and Kandahar.  Lorne married Betty (Fyck) of Calder and in 2010 they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Lorne settled in Regina and began his career in funeral service in 1970.  Over the years, Lorne has generously contributed his professional expertise to the Saskatchewan Funeral Service Association and the Funeral and Cremation Counsel of Saskatchewan.

Lorne always has a smile and a great attitude for life, and he strives to improve his ‘game’ on and off the course.  An entertaining bit of trivia is that a love for the game of golf can be traced back to Lorne’s family history connection with Golf Professional Arnold Palmer.

With his deep Saskatchewan roots, it is no surprise that Lorne has been a long-time fan and shareholder of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  When Lorne is not following the Riders, he loves to spend time with his family. Lorne and Betty have two married sons, Cory (Carrie) and Brad (Liza) and are very proud grandparents of their grandson Ryland.

Lorne is proud to have cared for families in the Regina area for over 40 years and to play an exceptional role as part of the professional team at Speers.

Roberta Ripplinger is proud to be part of the Speers family. Her passion for life and her welcoming nature always shine through as she strives to reach her goals to meet and exceed the expectations of those that she is honored to serve.

Roberta’s journey through life all started in Estevan, Saskatchewan, where she was born. She then moved to several places in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and as far as Texas during her childhood. Living in all these places as a child left a very positive and character building influence in her adult years.  Roberta was raised in a very close family unit consisting of Mom, Dad (both deceased) and two wonderful brothers; one older and one younger. Together they really enjoyed a lot of traveling. Roberta and her family had very strong ties to the church families in all the places they lived and wherever they lived they always had a lot of laughter and hospitality in their home.

Roberta attended a number of schools in Lethbridge, Dauphin, Brandon, Virden and Estevan finishing her high school years at Western Christian College which was a boarding school located at the time in Weyburn.  Roberta loved school, always working very hard and especially enjoyed the friendships.  Her post-secondary classes focused on missionary work, psychology, communications and anything to do with making positive relationships and being a positive influence on those around me.

Roberta spent a year in Vancouver, after completing her formal education, working with youth groups before coming back to the prairies where she married and raised three daughters.  During those years, Roberta enjoyed running a couple home businesses, serving with her church as well as teaching and leading various women’s groups.  It was a time of fulfillment, raising her girls, having her home full of friends and family and enjoying the great aspects of living in Regina.

Following the death of Roberta’s parents, her father in 1987 and her mother in 1996, she began to have an interest in funeral service.  It wasn’t long until she noticed an employment opportunity advertisement in the Leader Post. Roberta applied immediately and within 10 days was blessed with her first job in the funeral industry, that of being a Family Service Coordinator.  Almost 18 years have gone by and she has worked in various aspects of funeral services at three different funeral home locations.  Roberta has had the opportunity to work in the areas of aftercare, preneed sales, administrator, funeral director and funeral home manager. Roberta enjoyed all these different positions in the funeral homes she worked in because they all had one very strong commonality- they have been and continue to be exciting, rewarding and fulfilling. Roberta is very grateful for the years that she has worked with the Speers team.

In 2007, Roberta remarried and now she and her husband enjoy a blended family of six adult children (four are married) and four grandchildren.  They bring a fair amount of “busyness” to her life as well as the joy of watching them make their own homes, begin careers and raise their children.

With Roberta’s harmonious, gentle personality she is a gem to have in a busy workplace, serving families from all walks of life, from many different parts of the country and the world.  She personally, has been privileged to work with families with different religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds and a wide variety of needs.

Roberta can be contacts by email at rripplinger@speersfuneralchapel.com or by calling Speers at 306-522-3232.

Renee’s compassionate nature, positive attitude and bubbly sense of humour have made her a highly valued addition to the Speers team.

Born and raised in Regina, Renée started thinking about working in funeral service when she was still in Grade 11.  Upon completing her first year of university, she decided to test the waters and began working part-time at Helmsing Funeral Home in Regina. From 1996 to 2002, Renée worked at Helmsing and Lee Funeral Home, both in Regina; River Park Memorial Chapel in Prince Albert; and, Regina Funeral Home in Regina. Renée likes to say she ‘retired’ from funeral service in 2003 to try her hand at other work. Then in November 2011, Speers Funeral Chapel in Regina enticed her to come out of retirement. Renée is a positive addition to the Speers’ family, bringing with her years of past experience and a youthful outlook on many ideas and practices.

Renée married Brian Kelly, a talented musician, on February 13, 2010.   Together they enjoy mini vacations on their four day weekends, house and yard projects and love to spend time with family. In Renée’s spare time, she enjoys cooking, being a Mary Kay Consultant, being a member of Holy Trinity R.C. Church and volunteering for the Children’s Liturgy Program and Finance Committee. Renée also volunteer’s for the Look Good Feel Better Program, a free nationwide program helping women with appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

Born in Moose Jaw but raised in Regina, Krista Christensen doesn’t hesitate to cheer, “I love Regina!” and she’d never want to live anywhere else!  Krista’s gift for writing, visual media and public relations is readily apparent to all who meet her.  Growing up with a dad who was a photographer and a mother who was a writer, Krista and her three younger brothers naturally gleaned a lifetime love for learning, and an appreciation for history and the world around them.

One of Krista’s main roles is keeping the Speers team in touch with the many care giving organizations in the city that share the role of helping those who experience a death.  Hospitals, care homes, grief support organizations, churches and clergy and other not-for-profit entities are just a few of the many lives that Krista keeps in contact with on a regular basis.  She is also a committee member on the provincial bereavement networking committee.

Providing assistance with practical matters, grief support, referrals to appropriate resources and follow-up calls after the funeral service are some of the many ways that Krista touches families in need.  As well, Krista skillfully organizes Speers special events and is available to provide education to the community about grief, loss and funerals.   Krista and her partner of over 30 years, Gord Sinnett, love animals, and currently have five cats, two dogs and huge aquarium.  All of their pets have been rescued and are fortunate to be settled in a caring home.  Krista has two stepchildren and one step-grandchild.

In her spare time, Krista loves walking her dogs, gardening, camping, and enjoying a steaming cup of hot chocolate and a great book!

After spending many years in a variety of roles from broadcasting, to organizational management, to facilitating grief support programs, Krista feels as though she has come ‘home’ to work with the compassionate, friendly and professional team at Speers.

A zest for life, music and deep compassion for people has led Michelle Rohde to her role as a Certified Funeral Celebrant with the Speers team of professionals.

Michelle and her brother Michael were born and raised in Regina to Archie and Gloria Fieldgate. Michelle credits her supportive and caring childhood to nurturing in her a love of music, poetry and ministry.

Fred’s caring personality and life experience has truly made a great contribution to the Speers team.

After Fred finished primary school in Troon, Scotland, his family decided to move to Canada, specifically to the area just outside of Toronto. After completing his high school education, and training as a draftsman there, Fred went on to work in the drafting department at Orenda Engines Ltd., where he was involved with design drawings for the Iroquois engine that was to power the Avro Arrow. His final job before the project was shut-down was various assembly drawings for the Avro Car project, which was a low level flying saucer.

When the Arrow project came to an end, he continued his drafting skills with Jacuzzi Canada Ltd., where he was introduced to the pump; softener and filtration industry. This would be the industry that he embraced as a long term career. After moving into the sales and marketing areas within the manufacturing of these products, he was recruited many years later by a pump and softener manufacturing company in London, ON. This company was subsequently bought by WaterGroup Companies Inc. where Fred moved to Regina as the Director of Marketing.

After working on a project for Speers and meeting the staff, Fred was most impressed by the quality; dedication, and caring personalities of everyone in the organization, and set-out to become a part time Funeral Attendant with Speers’ which became a reality for him in the late summer of 2012.

Fred studied acting as well as voice acting training, which made him a huge asset to all the movie and television shows made in Saskatchewan in recent years. He can still be seen in many re-runs, and in TV commercials. His voice has also been used in both radio and TV commercials, as well as at a static display at Government House in Regina. He is a regular volunteer at Access 7 where you can find him both in front of, and behind the camera, or floor directing a show.

Fred’s upbeat personality, calm demeanour and love of helping people makes him a great fit to the Speers team.

Fred can be reached by calling Speers at 306-522-3232

A well-known figure in the funeral service industry, Ron McEachern’s extensive history with Speers is a comfort to families needing advice and support.

Ron began working as a driver for Speers in 1954 before becoming an apprentice to the late George Speers.
